RENEWABLE ENERGY – A PATHWAY TO THE FUTURE

Programa SibratecShop, SENAI, Rede Nobre

PROGRAM

MCTI, SENAI and Team Finland invite researchers and companies with an interest in Brazil’s vast possibilities in biomass and renewable energies to a seminar and networking event in Rio de Janeiro on 20-21 October, 2014. The seminar will be held in English.

The event is exclusively designed to allow Finnish and Brazilian researchers and firms to come together and find ways of transferring today’s top research on biomass and renewable energies into novel opportunities. Brazil is the world’s leading converter of biomass to energy and invests heavily in other renewables as well.

The Finnish-Brazilian Network of Excellence on Biomass and Renewable Energies - NOBRE will be present at the event in the form of 20 top scientists and bring to the table the network’s latest research findings on biomass and renewables. The event will allow for ample interaction between Finnish and Brazilian scientists and firms to explore partnership opportunities.

The Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro - FIRJAN will host the event at its headquarters and use its wide network to mobilize the participation of Brazilian firms at the event. This event is one of several projects that FIRJAN and Finland have pursued jointly as of late.

The main organizer of the event is the Brazilian Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation MCTI through the Secretary of Technological Development and Innovation. The MCTI is a long-term key partner of Finland and has under its domain the principal public financers of research and development work in Brazil.

Participants are requested to register for the event by sending directly to Maribel Alves Fierro Sevilla of MCTI at: maribel.sevilla@mcti.gov.br their confirmation with name, affiliation and contact information, with copy to monica.santos@mcti.gov.br.

Team Finland supports the organization of the event and can also discuss it with you in more detail as well as assist you with meeting requests or other interests in relation to your participation at the event. Please direct your inquiry to Juha Savolainen at the Embassy of Finland in Brasília at: juha.savolainen@formin.fi.

During the workshop, participants will be invited to contribute to three bilateral experimental innovation teams from the SibratecShops that will be working on an Innovation Challenge to develop a solution for a technological problem in the field of renewable energies and new materials. The National Department of SENAI will conduct the SENAI Grand Prix of Innovation.

The agenda includes scientific and technical oral presentations to exchange high level scientific knowledge on technological innovations in round table format and business matching and collaboration between Finland and Brazilian enterprises. The following shows the agenda:

OBJECTIVES

The workshop aims at combining renewable energy research (solar, combustion, hydrogen) with material science (materials for renewable energy) in order to share up-to-date knowledge.

It will focus on sharing methods, research approaches and recommendations concerned with technological innovations in the field of renewable energies and new materials.

The presentations will take into consideration and address the seven themes presented in the program.

Round-table talks are expected to result in notes containing a draft list of recommendations.

The project will deliver a final report that will summarize the main issues discussed during the workshop, as well as strengthen international cooperation through the SENAI Challenge Prize consisting of fellowships granted to innovators to continue the development of research and learning in the field.

It is expected that companies also create collaborative relationships to foster the development of joint technological innovation projects, commercial relationships, and business in general.
