On May 3, the installation of the Laboratoire International Associé Franco Brésilien - Energie & Environnement (LIA) was officially inaugurated in a ceremony held at the auditorium of Professor Francisco Romeu Landi of the Escola Politécnica (Poli).

LIA is a virtual research network focused on energy and the environment. It was created by the French Government to structure collaborations between research teams and laboratories in France with partners from other countries with whom they already carry out some kind of joint work.

Poli is already part of the research network, alongside the French institutions Center National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Centrale Supélec, Université Paris-Sud, Université de Lille, Centrale Lille, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Lille and Université d ' Artois and the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp).

The scientific director of the Laboratory in Brazil, on the French side, is Nasser Darabiha, from Centrale Supélec. The Brazilian scientific director is Professor José Pissolato, from the Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação (FEEC) at Unicamp. The Poly-USP research group within the LIA is coordinated by Professor Song Won Park of the Departamento de Engenharia Química (PQI).

The network will act for four years, extendable for four more years, in research on renewable energy sources, looking at all its facets: production, consumption, environmental impacts, integration and interaction with other forms of energy, and networks of distribution.

Researchers who have projects in these areas can contact the teacher José Pissolato (pissolato@gmail.com) to discuss the possibilities of cooperation and insertion in the LIA. The main lines of research are: energy transformation (focusing on research on combustion, formation of pollutants, energy efficiency, for example); Distribution networks (integration, storage, distributed generation, protection and quality of services and others); And environment (reduction of emissions, renewable sources, optimization of the energy network, management of water resources and waste).
